Musical Director: Ruth Gittins

Ruth GittinsThe Musical Director, Ruth Gittins, originally hails from Cardiff, and although Côr Merched Maldwyn is her first adult choir she has conducted a number of choirs and ensembles.

Ruth is a trained singer, having been taught whilst at Cardiff University by the well-known singer and teacher Maureen Guy. She often sings solos in the choir's concerts.

In 2006, Ruth entered for the Challenge Cup at the Kerry Eisteddfod, and was awarded the first prize for her dazzling performance of the Havanera from Carmen.

Ruth also composed the festive work "News of Great Cheer" that has been sung by the choir at Christmas concerts. In full...

Accompanist: Gwyneth Jones

Gwyneth JonesGwyneth was born and bred in Montgomeryshire and received her education at Pantycrai School, Adfa and Llanfair Caereinion High School. Music in the form of singing (frequently in the early years, with her sister at local Eisteddfodau), organ and piano playing was a major focus throughout her life and was much encouraged by musical parents. Gwyneth`s love of music has continued to this day.

Gwyneth trained as a midwife in Liverpool, Richmond and Epsom, Surrey and practiced Mid-wifery in and around Newtown for many years until her retirement in 2003 when she again became more actively involved in music. She and her husband farm in Aberhafesp and have four children and one grandson.

Peg Morris, the choir`s original accompanist, is fortunately still on call on the occasions that Gwyneth is not available.
